ABOUT CHRISTY'S CORNER CAFE
Christy Bosch
11/29/1976 - 9/18/2011
Who is Christy?
Our Cafe is named in memory of Christine "Christy" Bosch. Christy was born with Down Syndrome. Despite her disability, she was able to live life to the fullest thanks to the support and encouragement of others. As the sister of one of our founders, Christy and her story was the inspiration for Engaging Opportunities Foundation (EOF). EOF strives to provide opportunities for teens and adults with special needs just like others provided for Christy.

Christy didn’t let her disability get in the way from being a part of the world she loved, but she wasn’t on her journey alone. Throughout her life, Christy benefited from outstanding programs and staff at her school, Special Olympic competitions, jobs, and volunteering. Her school staff and coaches helped her reach her greatest potential. EOF was started to provide opportunities and support to others in our community like Christy had.

With the support of others, Christy proved to be a valuable and contributing member of her community. A few of her proud accomplishments include:
-
Manager for Cardinal Stritch High School boys varsity basketball team for nine years.
-
Awarded the Lucas County ARC award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in 2007 for her work at Northwest Ohio Center for Families and Children.
-
Volunteered at St. Jerome’s parish as a Mass server, on the funeral committee, and top festival raffle ticket seller for 2 years.
-
Participated and volunteered with Special Olympics for over twenty years.
-
Served on Consumer Advisory Board through the Community Employment Services Organization in Bowling Green.
-
Nominated by Cardinal Stritch HS and inducted into TAAC Hall of Fame posthumously in 2012.
-
Recipient of Steel Magnolia award honoring women who have faced personal adversity and have shown exceptional strength, courage, compassion and leadership through their work in support of their communities.
